Scam With Your Friends: system requirements and the AI voice GPU needs

A player asked whether a GTX 1650 can run it. The published Windows minimum asks for a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580, and the notes name that card in a speech crash that was fixed.

Answer: The published Windows minimum asks for a GTX 1060 (6 GB) or AMD RX 580, 3 GB RAM, a 64-bit Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, DirectX 11, 5 GB of storage and broadband internet. The notes never rank a GTX 1650 against that, but they name it: a speech-startup crash on GTX 1650 and RTX 4060 Ti systems was fixed on 16 October 2026. The AI voice needs its own GPU.

What a player asked

A Steam thread asks whether the game runs on a GTX 1650 with 16 GB of RAM. The poster writes "I got 1650gtx and 16gb of ram could I at least play the game ?" and the thread carries no developer reply, no build and no date. It is a question about hardware, not a report that the game failed to start.

What the store actually lists

The US-English Steam listing publishes these Windows requirements: a 64-bit processor and operating system, Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit), Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 3 GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6 GB) or AMD RX 580, DirectX 11, a broadband internet connection and 5 GB of storage. The recommended specification adds nothing beyond the 64-bit processor and operating system line. Steam lists Windows as the only supported platform, and the store marks controller support as full.

Those are the publisher's listed requirements, not a measured performance result. The listing names the GTX 1060 and the RX 580; it does not rank the GTX 1650 against either.

What the GPU has to do for the AI voice

The developer's notes treat the optional Qwen3 caller voice as its own hardware path, separate from running the game:

  • The notes of 16 October 2026 (Shanghai 17 October) say "Qwen3 TTS now requires a compatible GPU and automatically switches off if speech takes more than five seconds to start."
  • The notes of 17 October 2026 (Shanghai 17 October) repeat this with seven seconds.
  • The notes of 16 October 2026 (Shanghai 16 October) record "Fixed speech startup crashes affecting some PCs, including GTX 1650 and RTX 4060 Ti systems." That is the one place the notes name a GTX 1650 explicitly, and it describes a crash that was fixed.
  • The notes of 19 October 2026 (Shanghai 19 October) say "PCs using Whisper's GPU compatibility mode now keep using Whisper on the CPU instead of automatically switching to Moonshine."
  • The notes of 21 October 2026 (Shanghai 21 October) say "Qwen3 TTS now supports eligible graphics cards with 6 GB of VRAM, while retaining its other hardware requirements."

What this does not settle

The notes never publish a graphics card comparison, so they cannot be used to say that a GTX 1650 meets the listed minimum. They also do not name which cards count as "eligible" for the 6 GB of VRAM rule, do not say what happens on a card below that, and do not say how the compatible-GPU requirement is judged for Qwen3. The five-second and seven-second start-up limits are different numbers from two different releases, and the notes do not say which applies to a given build. Nothing here was measured on an installed build by this site.
