Tenebris Somnia: the Vitria mirror boss, the grab, and whether a difficulty option exists

The developers' own guide on the Vitria mirror fight and the grab mechanic, what the developer replied in the thread, and whether a difficulty option exists at all.

Answer: To break Vitria’s grapple, rapidly press the interact button, according to the publisher-linked boss guide. A difficulty-setting menu has not been verified here; silence in the store or a changelog is not proof that it does not exist. The older developer reply promised to look at the fight, not a new difficulty mode.

Which fight players mean

It is Vitria, and the threads are not vague about her. A player in the boss thread describes the confrontation as "that boss with long arms that looks like Dimitrescu from Village", and another in the same thread identifies it exactly: "Nah they're talking about Vitria fight, the one that can tentacle grab you and have multiple phases outside and inside the mirror." The complaint is about the mirror room, where you have to "check the mirror in reverse to see where the tentacles are" while dodging attacks that can instantly kill you, on controls the poster says do not reward precision.

The poster also names the Hermes fight as hard for some people, and the guide covers that separately: its Sanguis Beast Form section says you must lure Sanguis over to the giant knife near the end of the chase sequence, and that timing his pounce attack just right, or getting him to stand directly over the knife, makes the knife stab through him.

What the official guide says about the grab

The publisher-linked Steam guide, credited to Metadata Rosenberg and Dalia, describes Vitria pulling Julia closer during a grapple. Rapidly press the interact button to escape, then keep moving. The same action also applies to the draining grabs described for Relicta ghosts. The guide contains spoilers.

Other sections give separate boss-specific tactics: disarming before entering Fumus’s red circles avoids the weapon-dependent self-attack; destroying the studio lights during Sulfur encounters clears enemies in that arena. These are paraphrases of the named guide, not our independent playtest.

Is there a difficulty setting

A difficulty-setting menu has not been verified by this site. Its absence from the reviewed store, patch note or guide does not establish that no such option exists. The request is open, and one player states it plainly: "Some of these boss fights are exceedingly difficult, for a game that's strength is in it's narrative. I wonder is there a chance that you'll implement difficulty settings for people who want less of a challenge, but dig the vibes and the story?" and "A difficulty setting would really help with giving people of all ability levels the full experience of the game, without sacrificing the core of it."

The developers did answer the thread about the fight itself, and their answer is short: "We'll have a look at that fight for you". That is a promise to look, not an announcement of a difficulty mode, and this site does not present it as one.

Two other published challenges sit on the same fights. The achievement list carries Iron and wax, "Defeat Obscuratus using only the wrench", and Exhaust Pipe, "Defeat Fumus using only the pipe", so the weapon you bring to a boss is a documented part of at least two of them.

One changelog line does change how the fight plays for everyone, and it is in version 1.0.1, dated 17 October 2026: "Certain boss encounters will now dynamically drop resources based on player health/inventory".

What players report about the fight

Player accounts disagree about how hard it is, and both directions are worth reading. One says Vitria "was actually pretty accessible if you understand you can position yourself to make her attack you in that position while quickly moving away", and that the previous fight was harder. Another says "I did Vitria with just the pipe and while it takes a lot of tries it is doable", and that the most important thing is "learning how to bait her into doing an attack that is easy to dodge like the tentacle attack on the side", adding that sometimes you have to accept you cannot hit the tentacle and should focus on not getting hit. A third says to keep the shotgun for the final boss and use the pipe or the wrench early, and that the shotgun can insta-kill spawn.

The guide's own YouTube video links sit under each boss section if you want the publisher's own demonstration rather than a description of it.

What this page does not claim

This page does not confirm the availability or absence of a difficulty-setting menu. No claim is made that the fight is impossible, that it is trivial, that a patch fixes it, or that the developers have decided to add an easy mode - only that they said they would look at the fight, and that the version 1.0.1 changelog now has bosses dropping resources based on the player's health and inventory. This site has not played the build.
