Brookhollow Park, Early Access, and the Rot and Ruin update.

Early accessPC

Grounded 2 is Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos-Montréal's co-op survival game, published by Xbox Game Studios and still in Steam Early Access. This hub covers what the Rot and Ruin update of 20 October 2026 added, what the Early Access build is, and the connection problems players are still reporting. It is not a full-release guide and no build was played by this site.

Is Grounded 2 finished, or still in Early Access?

Still Early Access. The Steam purchase panel for Grounded 2 is marked "Early Access Game" and Steam lists Early Access as one of its genres. The launch announcements on 29 July 2025 were explicitly about the early access phase: a developer vlog introducing the Early Access phase, a "Grounded 2 Available Today!" launch post, and an Early Access roadmap. The store listing also says the game "progresses further in development", so the feature set on Steam today is still a moving target. The US-English release field reads 29 July 2025; the publisher's own launch post is dated 29 July 2025 at 17:07 UTC, which is 30 July in Asia/Shanghai, so this site publishes 30 July 2025 as the launch day. It is an Early Access start date, not a full-release date.

What did the Rot and Ruin update add?

Rot and Ruin, published 21 October 2026 in Asia/Shanghai (20 October in UTC), is the largest content addition so far. It opens the Woodpile, a new area where Termites have returned, including Workers, Soldiers, a Queen and an O.G.R.R. King, plus new O.G.R.R. variants with new attacks and unfamiliar behaviour. It also adds the Centipede, the boss the community had been asking for. Alongside the area it adds the Potato Beetle Buggy, a larger buggy with a shotgun-like turret, a spread projectile, a charge shot and a Healing Roar; a painting system with the Splotcher paintball gun for walls, floors, roofs, stairs and doors; the Bismuth resource and the Yoking Press, which raise weapons and armour to higher tiers; and new SCA.B themes, collectible figurines and stations across Brookhollow Park. The Abyss also gains bismuth, new diggable chests, geysers that now emit a warming volume, and improved navigation. Full detail is on the Rot and Ruin page.

Is the Rot and Ruin content final?

Not quite. A Rot and Ruin public test build, version 0.6.0, went out on 7 October 2026 in Asia/Shanghai (6 October in UTC), and the publisher's own note on it says the update is "in the development phase", warns that "there is always a risk when testing out new features", and that "any progress you make on the test server may or may not carry over". The public release on 21 October in Asia/Shanghai is the same 0.6.0 feature set, so the wording to expect is that this content is what the public build now ships, while the build itself is still being worked on.

Can you play with console friends, and are cloud saves reliable?

Crossplay and cloud saves are the two things players are still filing threads about. The store lists Single-player, Multi-player, Co-op and Online Co-op, and the very first Grounded 2 hotfix after launch, on 31 July 2025 in Asia/Shanghai (30 July in UTC), disabled crossplay for players who launched without Gaming Services enabled. On 2 October 2026 in Asia/Shanghai (1 October in UTC) hotfix 0.5.1.1 fixed an issue where players on Steam could not connect to other players based on their Steam Download Region. Players are still reporting a "Crossplay doesn't work" thread and a "cloud save is not matching up" thread on the game's own forum, and those are community reports rather than a published status. The crossplay and cloud save page sets out what the publisher has actually said.

What PC and languages does Grounded 2 need?

Steam marks the platforms Windows only, with no macOS or Linux build listed. The listing names 11 interface languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish - Spain, Spanish - Latin America, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Portuguese - Brazil, with English, French and Portuguese - Brazil carrying the full-audio marker. The store also lists Full controller support and Steam Input API support alongside Single-player, Multi-player, Co-op and Online Co-op. We have not run the game, so the hardware figures in the Steam requirements panel are the publisher's, not a measurement by this site.
