Sunken Realms: low frame rate, crashes on load, and Steam Deck

What the published patches changed for Sunken Realms performance, what players and a community member say about Steam Deck, and the fact that the store lists no performance target.

ReleasedPC

Answer: The published fixes are concrete. v1.03 cut dungeon load times, v1.05 made WASD and the map key remappable, and v1.08.2 took the developer's own Steam Deck on low settings from 12 to 50 FPS. The store lists no performance target at all, so there is nothing official to hold the game to beyond those notes.

The patches that changed the picture

Three official patch notes carry the fix, and each is specific:

  • v1.03, 21 September 2026 - Dungeon load times have been drastically reduced. The developer published his own measurement: I ran an internal test where I entered the dungeon 20 times and tested the load times. Fastest was 3 seconds, longest was 11 seconds, with an average time of 6.9 seconds. No crashes. He names the tradeoff himself: the possibility of having dungeon rooms repeat.
  • v1.05, 24 September 2026 - Movement (WASD) can now be remapped, the toggle map key can now be successfully remapped, enemies can no longer be climbed except Fallen Tufa, and a theoretical crash after excessive failed dungeon build retries was fixed.
  • v1.08.2, 3 October 2026 - I found a bug related to the dungeon map that was very expensive, especially on lower end hardware. On my Steam Deck on low settings, this fix took my FPS from 12 to 50.

That last line is a specific first-party frame-rate example in the reviewed notes, and it is a number on one machine on low settings.

What the Steam Deck threads say

The thread asking whether the game is playable on Steam Deck was answered on 16 October 2026 with: Works on steam deck and should get a solid 30 fps. Just make sure it's updated. A thread reporting 30 FPS on a 3070 Ti at 1080p as unplayable drew a reply saying it should have gotten better optimized, with roughly the same specs running smoothly, and that one biome can cause a bit of a FPS drop for a second or two before it sorts itself out.

A thread about the game locking the computer before it even loads was answered in the same batch of replies, which said the game should work better, feel smoother, not be as laggy or frame-droppy, and that the crashes have been more or less removed.

Read those three replies for what they are: all three are from the same community member, not from the developer's account, and none of them is a measurement. The developer's own published performance statement is the v1.08.2 line above.

What the store actually promises

Very little, and that is worth stating plainly. The published configuration on the store page is a single line: Minimum: OS *: Windows 7. The asterisk on it points at a Steam notice printed underneath: Starting January 1st, 2024, the Steam Client will only support Windows 10 and later versions. In other words the store still advertises Windows 7 while the client underneath it has required Windows 10 since 2024, and the line was never updated. There is no recommended configuration at all, no CPU, GPU, memory or storage figure, and no frame-rate target. So there is no official specification to hold the game to, and this site does not invent one from the patch notes.

The two things that can be checked are the minimum OS line and the patch number. The fixes above are historical, named-version reports. The official feed now includes v1.13: the developer upgraded Unreal Engine 5.7 to 5.8 but explicitly did not measure the suggested performance improvement. This does not guarantee any frame rate on your device.

What this page does not claim

No fix, no patched build, no frame-rate promise and no requirement check is claimed here beyond what the developer's own patch notes say. The community replies are labelled as community replies, the 12-to-50 FPS figure is a Steam Deck on low settings, and this site has not played the build.
